Good Food Month: now with Black Fire
Black Fire restaurant has only been a month or two in Braddon and is already jumping head first into The Canberra Times Good Food Month. Paolo Milanesi and his team are putting on a three course Mediterranean dinner featuring Dionysius olive oil which is produced by Canberran Dennis Gizas from a family grove back in Greece. It's a three-course set menu with a special dessert made from olive oil. It's $60 a person and runs on October 21. Check out the menu at blackfirerestaurant.com.au or dionysusaustralia.com.au. See the full Good Food Month program at canberra.goodfoodmonth.com.

Lyndey Milan's Taste of Australia
Lyndey Milan's latest book and TV series takes her all round the country. We're intrigued by what she found in Canberra and the surrounding region and in Lyndey Milan's Taste of Australia she offers recipes and memories of the capital. Milan goes trout fishing with Ken Helm, visits Susan Bruce at the Poachers Pantry and barbecues a sirloin of beef with bush herbs and spices for Craig Starr and his family, who run Gold Creek Station. She also trips through the snow country with a stop in Jindabyne and some schnapps at Wild Brumby. It's published by Hardie Grant. $39.99

Tea times
There must be something about the north side. Adore Tea is already loved by many, and now there's a new tea business brewing. Naturopath centre and wellness hub Mura Pathway to Wellness opened in July and they've just released a line of organic teas, which they hand-make on site. There are 12 blends to choose from, all to soothe different ailments including the digestive blend, the immunity blend, the calming blend, and just in time for spring, the hay-fever blend. All of the herbs used come from a family-run herb farm in Tasmania, which are then delivered fresh from the source. As well as from the centre itself, the teas are available from Choku Bai Jo in North Lyneham and Curtin, As Nature Intended at the Belconnen Markets, Paleo Perfection, Samekesh and V Spot Cafe. Prices start from $7.95 for 50 grams. You can test them out for yourself at their open day on September 28 from 10-4pm at 69B Anthony Rolfe Ave, Gungahlin. There are also plans to run tea-making classes where you can learn to create your own blend, specifically tailored to you. Keep an eye on murapathway.com to find out more.

Snap to it
We first brought you news a couple of months ago about Snapper, the new fish and chippy coming to the Canberra Yacht Club on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The Canberra Southern Cross Club, which runs the cafe, says it will open on Friday, September 26.

Two Before Ten heads to Aranda
Coffee shop and roasters Two Before Ten is one of the retailers which is preparing for big changes as it makes way for the redevelopment of Canberra House in Civic (in West Row). Owner Chris Dennis told our colleague Emma Kelly that the cafe will reinvent itself around the corner from Canberra House near the Mayfair apartments as a coffee trailer serving jaffles and brews. In January, Two Before Ten will have a new home with extended hours and an outdoor courtyard. They'll also be expanding to Belconnen at the old Aranda shops, moving their inhouse coffee roaster to the shops and then opening another Two Before Ten cafe.
