Morsels: Dessert Divas; Farmers' Market book; Wine, Roses and All That Jazz

Wine, roses, jazz
Many of the Canberra district's wineries are taking part in the Wine, Roses and All That Jazz festival this weekend. The Forage food markets are coming to Mount Majura Winery on Saturday, November 1 – they're an offshoot of the Hustle & Scout fashion markets. While you're there try to get your hands on some of the Mount Majura 2014 riesling, which took out trophies for Best Dry Riesling and Best Canberra District Riesling at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge a couple of weeks ago. At Four Winds there'll be an a capella concert and wood-fired pizzas in the vineyard. Tallagandra Hill winery will have a festival craft market with local designers and craftspeople, while Yarrh Wines is doing a "street food market" with banh mi and stir-fried dishes. At Lerida Estate, there's a jazz and shiraz month all November starting on the weekend. There will be special prices on glasses of Lerida’s two shiraz wines at Café Lerida, a free bottle of shiraz viognier with a purchase of any six wines. There'll also be jazz musicians performing every Sunday. There are 17 wineries taking part all up. See the full program of events at canberrawines.com.au.

Farmers' cookbook
The Capital Region Farmers' Market turns 10 and is publishing its own cookbook this weekend. The book is all about sharing stories and recipes from the farmers, growers, and cooks who sell their food and produce at the markets. The cookbook will be launched on Saturday at 10am at the markets by chef Andrew Hollands. The cookbook goes on sale for $20 at the Rotary Help Desk from Saturday until Christmas. See capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au.

Breakfast continues
The Canberra Times' Good Food Month is nearly over and we've had a number of sold out events, big one-off dinners and unusual menus from Canberra's best restaurants. And the festival is leaving a bit of a legacy for the capital's foodies. Eightysix opened for breakfast every Sunday in October for Good Food Month and the sessions were so popular that the restaurant has decided to keep on serving breakfast. Owner Gus Armstrong told us one Sunday breakfast session was booked solid and there was a line out the door another weekend. The bolognaise jaffles, black pudding and fried egg muffins and duck buns were clearly a bit of a hit.

Dessert diva
Christine Manfield's latest book is beautiful but not for the casual cook. Dessert Divas is a collection of the much-respected chef's favourite sweet recipes from her restaurant Universal, which closed in 2013. As you'd expect from a two-hatted restaurant, the desserts are complex, fine dining challenges – you'll learn to make clear glass wafers, coconut sand and fennel candy just in the one recipe. But the finished desserts look absolutely gorgeous. It's a big, glossy affair – a cookbook that gives you a peek into the world of Christine Manfield. It's published by Penguin. $79.99.

Halloween special
Dream Cuisine in Fyshwick is getting into the spirit of Halloween with these blood orange flavoured, black macarons etched with cutely spooky motifs. They're available from the cafe on Whyalla Street. No question about whether these are a trick or a treat.
