Once known for white bread and red faced beach-goers, Bronte now boasts Iggy's sourdough and Three Blue Ducks as part of its growing food cachet.

And from Wednesday next week, there'll be a new kid on Macpherson Street. Moxhe restaurant will open at the former home of La Locanda and Prego's after the site was snapped up by a young couple with a CV that wouldn't look out of place at a CBD fine diner.

Chef David Coumont arrives via Michel Bras' restaurant in the south of France as well as Cafe Paci and Fish Face, while co-owner Helen Diab is a former restaurant manager at Berowra Waters Inn.

"Moxhe (pronounced mox) is the name of the village in Belgium where David is from, and it is so close to his heart that we decided to name the restaurant after it," Diab says.

The menu will chart both contemporary Australia and Europe, and despite offering a degustation option ($70) as well as a la carte, the couple want it to be an accessible neighbourhood restaurant.

"We are always gobsmacked when we go out how expensive it can be," Diab says.
