The owner of the popular Melbourne food truck Mr Burger has finally secured a much-coveted permit to operate in the City of Yarra.

Council staff at the City of Yarra, which encompasses the suburbs of Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond, has been in talks with Mr Burger owner Daragh Kan since December. Mr Kan has five vans operating in other councils including Maribyrnong, Darebin and Moreland. The new Yarra permit, secured yesterday, will allow Kan to trade on the corner of Easey and Budd streets, Collingwood. The burger-flipping will begin tomorrow, Friday April 12, at midday.

The City of Yarra has now issued three food truck permits, to Mr Burger, Chingon in Richmond, and a third business that council did not name this morning. The council's strict food-truck guidelines stipulate that traders must not set up opposite a residence, and must be at least 200 metres from other food retailers.

Kan is working with the council on gaining further permits for the area. "I live in the area and know it well," he said.

He is also talking with Port Phillip Council for permits in the St Kilda area.
