A $15 million restaurant and hospitality venue with elements inspired by The Grounds of Alexandria is being built on the Georges River at Milperra.

Paul Signorelli says a branch of his Pyrmont venue, Signorelli Gastronomia, will be the first of several venues to open at the 16-hectare waterfront property his family has purchased.

"There'll be a wine room and a cheese room. Some of it will be a bit like The Grounds. We'll have a chicken pen, we might get a cow and call it Daisy. And there's room to build a really serious market garden," he says.

The massive project, which opens next year, has some other drawcards for locals.

"We want to reinstate the pool, where I believe Ian Thorpe used to swim, and also build an exhibition centre. The west of Sydney needs one," he adds.
