Forget Mayweather v Pacquiao, a title food fight underway in Sydney has a flyweight Redfern cafe in one corner, up against the heavyweight SumoSalad.

Toby Iaccarino, co-owner at Three Williams cafe in Redfern, claims the "narnie" sandwich on the menu at Sumo's MLC store is theirs.

Well, the name, anyway.

"Flatbread sandwiches are nothing new. But we came up with the name, a combination of naan [bread] and a sarnie," Iaccarino says.

Three Williams claims SumoSalad reps ate their way through Three Williams' "narnie" line-up.

A SumoSalad spokeswoman confirmed the company did garner inspiration from Three Williams, as well local operator Jimmy Grants, an overseas fact-finding trip and "innovation sessions" with its local naan bread supplier.

"I was quite chuffed a big-name place like Sumo would be inspired," Iaccarino adds.

Three Williams has even returned the nod, putting a new salad-filled narnie on the menu. It's called the Sumo narnie.
