New Italian for Rosalie

The eating hub that is Rosalie is set to grow, with experienced operators Mark and Narelle Tognini opening an Italian restaurant in the space vacated by Tomatos pizzeria.

The couple - who own Tognini's deli at Milton, Tognini's Espresso in Fortitude Valley and Tognini's Trattoria at Spring Hill - say that Il Locale ("The Local") will be a smart-casual Italian with a wood-fired oven for pizza and roast meats such as suckling pig, as well as roasted vegetables.

The modern menu will incorporate dishes from both north and south, from Sicilian style seafood, in addition to the authentic pizza and calzone (an experienced Italian pizzaiolo has been employed), slow-cooked meats, pasta and a few share plates.

A predominantly Italian wine list will offer most by the glass. The hunt is on for a head chef, but in the meantime Tognini chef Brendan Hull will be behind the burners.

If all goes to plan, Narelle Tognini says, Il Locale will be open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner from early August.
