New look for historic Brisbane pub

Deery's Restaurant at the historic Story Bridge Hotel is about to undergo refurbishment.

The Brand + Slater architect firm has been engaged to "freshen up" the restaurant.

One of Brisbane's original old pubs, the hotel was constructed in 1886 and has been in the Deery family for more than 40 years. According to owner Richard Deery, the renovations include moving the bar from its current location to the other side of the restaurant, while the courtyard with its city views will be given a new identity with its own (as yet unreleased) name, a separate bar and a more casual share plate menu.

Fans of the Deery's former steak-focused menu needn't worry too much though – the restaurant's offerings won't be straying too far from the original menu under the same chef Jason Walker. Richard Deery says they hope to get the refurbishment finished before Melbourne Cup Day.
