New opening: Little Big Sugar Salt

In the hectic inner-northern cafe scene, it's only natural we'll start to see newcomers try to present their product a little differently. Enter LBSS (Little Big Sugar Salt), a small cafe that opened two weeks ago in Abbotsford, on the corner of Lithgow and Victoria streets. Behind the business are designer Charl Laubscher, copywriter Erika Geraerts, construction manager Morgan Green and carpenter Adam Houston, none of whom has hospitality experience. They were inspired when ''we went to a cafe about a year ago and the waiter did all the ordering for us'', Laubscher says. While the concept of a limited menu is nothing new, this cafe's menu is broken down into four sections, each with just two dishes covering the sweet, savoury, little or big concepts. The manager is Jesse Aston, from New Zealand coffee capital Wellington. LBSS will also be serving Peoples Coffee from Wellington - the first cafe in Melbourne to do so. LBSS is open daily from 6.30am to 3.30pm.
