New owners at Schoolhouse Cafe

The Schoolhouse Cafe at Brighton has new owners and is to have a new fitout. Brothers Mark and Attil Filippelli, who own St Kilda's Il Fornaio and The Last Piece cafe in Mulgrave, have joined forces with their business partners from The Last Piece, Adrian and Rebecca Ciorciari, and Hawthorn football player Josh Gibson in the Brighton venture. They are renovating to create a cafe, on-site coffee roastery and coffee education centre. The 1840s building will seat 65 people inside and 100 outside. Also in the works is a children's playground and herb garden. The interior has been designed by Iva Foschia, who styled Il Fornaio's interior. Mark Filippelli promises an ''all-day local cafe for the area using great produce''. The Schoolhouse, at 15 St Andrews Street, should open by the first week of June.
