The team from Top Paddock and Two Birds One Stone has another project on the boil. Kettle Black is slated to open next April in an Albert Road, South Melbourne, building that merges a Victorian terrace with a contemporary apartment complex.

The team has enlisted South Yarra design firm Studio You Me to collaborate on the fitout and will take a bold approach.

"We don't want to be stupid about it, but people are ready for something a bit different," says partner Nathan Toleman.

Top Paddock recently won the best cafe design award at the Eat-Drink-Design Awards.
