Vamps Bistro in Paddington shut its doors on Saturday night after a record run, but it won't be the end of the space as a food venue.

"Thirty-two years, three months and 10 days," Vamps owner Tony Johansson fires back when asked how long the restaurant has been trading.

"We have loyal customers but they are dead, dying or retiring. We have new ones as well, but there are just so many options to them," he says.

A stalwart of the Sydney food scene is looking at the Five Ways site: restaurateur Denise Winters, who has had a number of restaurants in Sydney, including the Chelsea at Potts Point.

Good Food tracked down Winters in the Southern Highlands.

"I've just sold my cafe down here. I am interested, but it isn't finalised yet," she says.
