Pagan offerings from Stefano's

Stefano's head chef Jim McDougall is preparing for a rustic, pagan-style feast of Roman proportions in honour of the June winter solstice. Brumalia, designed around themes of abundance, sharing and merriment (every little bit helps in the dead of winter), will feature four courses of hearty ancient fare over the open fire at the century-old Stonnington Tavern, with matching wines by fellow Mildura locals Chalmers Wines. Think mulled wine, goblets, fire pits and whole beasts on the spit. The event costs $110 a head for canapes, four courses and wine. Brumalia, Saturday, June 22, Stonnington Tavern, Merbein. Bookings essential, phone 0415 822 120.
