Phat Brats to open Shawcross Pizza

Bob Hart & Hilary McNevin

THE BOYS behind Fitzroy hot dog shop Phat Brats, at 320 Brunswick Street, are taking over the neighbouring site at 324 with plans to open Shawcross Pizza. Co-owners Matt John and Damian Thompson will renovate the shop, which was once a takeaway called the Kebab Factory. John has a design studio and will take care of the interior and the branding. Pizzas will be made ''on a conveyor belt system'', he says, and will be available whole or by the slice, along with ''kick-arse salads'', naturally. They plan to open on December 15. ''We want to up the standard of food on the street,'' John says. Phat chance.
