Chef Philippe Mouchel has just signed a seven-month lease for a new, solo venture in the former Cafe Vue site in St Kilda Road. Mouchel, who took a year off to travel and consult through France, Japan and China after his CBD restaurant PM24 closed in
January 2014, hopes to open his pop-up cafe-bistro, Deja vu, at 401 St Kilda Road on June 15.

‘‘Then we’ll see what happens after that,’’ he says.

The menu will feature the Frenchman’s rotisserie-cooked chicken, which garnered a cult following at PM24, as well as other casual bistro dishes yet to be finalised.

Born in Normandy, Mouchel arrived in Melbourne in 1991 to head the Paul Bocuse restaurant, before running the kitchens at Langton’s (now Cecconi’s), the Brasserie by Philippe Mouchel at Crown and PM24.
