Pope Joan team serve up food store

Ben Foster and chef Matt Wilkinson - the team behind East Brunswick cafe Pope Joan and bar Bishop of Ostia - have opened food store Hams & Bacon at 75 Nicholson Street, right next door to the Bishop. Hams & Bacon is ''a produce store and takeaway shop,'' says Foster, who opened the doors on February 8.

The store offers takeaway coffee and sandwiches as well as dry goods, from pasta to tomatoes and olive oils. ''We'll sell some imported goods but have Australian produce where possible,'' Foster says.

This will also include Warialda Belted Galloway beef, Milawa chicken and Bundarra Berkshire pork. ''We want to give the smaller producer more exposure.

People are always asking where to get the produce we use and now we can say here and not just at farmers' markets.'' Hams & Bacon is open daily, 10am-2.30pm.
