Popular Dandenong restaurant goes up in flames
Fire at the Snooty Fox restaurant.
THE popular Snooty Fox restaurant at Olinda, in the Dandenong Ranges, has been destroyed by fire.
Country Fire Authority brigades were called to the restaurant, on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, on Tuesday night.
No one was hurt in the blaze, which was battled by crews from 11 fire trucks. The cause of the fire is not known.
The restaurant had been open on Christmas Day and was also planning a big New Year's Eve.
Residents of the surrounding area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed because it was believed there may have been asbestos in the air.
Police say a house fire in Reservoir was suspicious and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
They are investigating the circumstances surrounding the blaze last week at the vacant house. Emergency services were called to the Lane Crescent house on December 21 at about 12.40am to deal with the fire, which took hold in the front room.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a man over the death of an elderly couple who died in their Yarraville house earlier this month.
The man was taken into police custody on Wednesday. Police were called when a neighbour reported a fire.
A police spokeswoman said the man was helping police with their investigation.
Forensic, arson and investigation squads investigated the death of the pair after a neighbour's emergency call.
After the fire, Detective Inspector John Potter, of the homicide squad, told reporters the couple's family was distraught.
One neighbour of the Morven Street couple described them as nice people who were frail with ailing health.
Police are urging any witnesses, or anyone with information, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au
