Post offices set the stage for coffee evolution

Post offices in the south-west suburb of Liverpool have become the unlikely staging post for the evolution of the Sydney coffee.

Last week, customers picking up mail were curious to discover coffee capsules on the shelves. Vittoria Coffee chief executive Les Schirato confirmed two Liverpool post offices - along with a large number in Canberra - were being used to sell capsules, available under the Aurora brand.

''There's been a lot of success in Switzerland selling coffee through post offices,'' Schirato says.

''Capsules are taking the instant-coffee market and we're keen to see any market development that gets people drinking better coffee.''
