Robbery: St Ali's coffee machine stolen

Bob Hart and Hilary McNevin

The unstoppable Salvatore Malatesta will open his ambitious, pedal-powered new coffee shrine, St Ali North, on Tuesday with a Twitter lottery. And a twist.

For an explanation, follow @ST_ALi until Friday with the hashtag #iridenorth: doing this could make you one of the three coffee-crazed bike bandits who will each win a own secure post box, with key, at the 6am-6pm cafe - behind Velo Cycles on the Capital City Bike Trail at the corner of Park and Nicholson streets where Carlton North, Brunswick East and Fitzroy North meet.

But why a post box, you ask? Well, for the three lucky winners, a fresh supply of St Ali beans will be stuffed into the box, mounted on an outside wall of the cafe, each week for the next year.

And if you don't win, you can still own a box. If you get in early, that is. And look like you deserve one.
