Shipping companies will be looking over their shoulders, a container shortage surely looming with the metal boxes now the accoutrement du jour of architects and food operators.

Salt Meats Cheese is the latest to jump on the shipping container party, the Alexandria outfit kitting out its model with an extraction fan and a pizza oven.

The "Pizza Box", which travelled from Naples, will be Sydney's newest pizzeria from Friday (April 10).

Vini in Surry Hills is a shipping container pioneer, the food and beverage outlet on Cockatoo Island also has one, and Sydney food pop-up Knafeh operates out of a shipping container.

While they make quirky bars and private dining rooms, Luke Mangan has put a graffiti art-covered covered container to use as a coolroom at his Waterloo HQ.
