Shoot the chef

A study in tattoos and osso bucco takes top prize in our annual photo contest.

Pigs large and small, great swathes of flour and ''that's not a knife, this is a knife'' blades were the overarching themes of the 500 entries received for this year's Shoot the Chef competition. For the first time the hugely popular annual contest that combines our passion for food and photography was opened nationally.

Part of Good Food Month, presented by Citi, the entry brief was simple: Shoot a chef (or your interpretation of one) and share it via Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #shootthechef. To see them all, visit goodfoodmonth.com/shootthechef.

Finalists can be viewed in this photogallery. From October 10 - 31 an exhibition of the winners and finalists' prints will be hosted harbourside at The Star, in Pyrmont. The prints will later head to Melbourne where they will be exhibited at Rialto, Collins Street, from November 1-29.

Correction: An earlier version of this story listed the start date of the Sydney exhibition as October 2. This has now been changed.
