What appears to be a ground-level wine cellar in Surry Hills is actually the newly refurbished Foveaux St Dining.

Stripping back on all formalities, Foveaux St Dining is fine food meets straight-up casual. You won't find cutlery or serviettes on the tables or eccentric art on the walls.

"It's about people relaxing and talking, that's what I've always remembered in a dining experience," chef and owner Darrell Felstead says.

"I'm trying to create a space where people can connect in the simplest way."

A six-course banquet as well as a-la carte options are available. Courses are built around simple seafood and meat with fresh Australian flowers and vegetables to complement.

With an extensive wine list curated by Belinda Mackie, previously of Sokyo, features Australian and Spanish drops.

Downstairs from the restaurant sits sister venture, Deli Wine Bar. Open late, offerings include wine, charcuterie and take-away cheese.
