The movement for jumbo-sized restaurants is gaining momentum in Sydney. A 600-seater from the Sky Phoenix Chinese restaurant group will swing open in late October at the East Village development in Zetland (behind the Audi dealership on South Dowling Street).

Named East Phoenix, it will be joined in December by the pizzeria regularly voted one of Sydney's best. Dominic Sullivan, general manager at Payne Consolidated, which is behind the East Village development confirmed Darlinghurst's Lucio Pizzeria will open an outlet at East Village.

Architect Koichi Takada, responsible for some of Sydney's best-designed Japanese restaurants and Jennifer Hawkins' Curl Curl home, has worked his flair on the East Village look.

When finished, it'll also include Colins Butchery and Taste Growers Market. "We've taken our inspiration from around the globe. Places like Eataly and Burough Market in London," Sullivan says.
