In a feelgood pairing of Indian food and film, Elsternwick's Classic cinema will show a special screening of romantic comedy The Lunchbox on Thursday July 10.

Set in Mumbai, the film centres around the city's famously efficient dabbawala hot lunch delivery system. In the award-winning flick, a home-cooked delivery mix-up prompts a letter-writing friendship between an unhappily married woman and an introverted bachelor.

Bicycle lunch delivery service, Tiffins Melbourne, who use the same stacked lunchbox system as the film, will be serving pre-show snacks including chickpea and lentil doughnuts, traditional fishcakes with tamarind sauce, cardamom-spiced minced chicken skewers, and cashew nut, spinach and cottage cheese fritters.

Thursday, July 10, 6.30pm (for a 7pm screening), Classic cinema, 9 Gordon Street, Elsternwick, 9524 7900, classiccinemas.com.au. Tickets $13-$22, including pre-show finger food and a beer or cider.
