Gontran Cherrier is bringing "the bread of your dreams" to Melbourne.

The fourth-generation baker and patissier is well known for his work at three Michelin-starred restaurant l'Arpège in Paris alongside Alain Passard, for his cookbooks, his looks, sure, as a TV host, and for the 20 boulangeries around the world that bear his name.

Melbourne is one of six cities pegged for a Gontran Cherrier boulangerie opening this year, the only one in Australia.

"There is a lot of momentum for Gontran's croissants and bread," says business partner Luc Bajot.

"We are pushing for a Melbourne opening this year, but that will depend on finding the right location," Bajot said, having just missed out on a site in Smith Street, Collingwood. Until then, sweet dreams, Melbourne.
