While the Four Points by Sheraton is poised to extend over Sydney's Western Distributor with a function space and hotel eatery, the even bigger food news is that there is restaurant precinct being quietly developed next door on Sussex Street.

One of Hong Kong's top Chinese restaurants is tipped to open when the development finishes late in 2015. With Barangaroo under construction a couple of drop punts away, you'd have thought the neighbourhood had enough restaurant seats. But there will be plenty of additional diners with the Four Points expanding to 900 rooms.

Rumoured to be called the Wharf Lane Precinct, the neighbouring development will add another 500-600 restaurant seats to the area.

One of Sydney's top interior designers, Michael McCann (Felix, Flying Fish) has created the food masterplan.

The plans include the Chinese restaurant, a tapas restaurant and Italian wine bar.

McCann designs for the restaurants, including a French bistro, have also surfaced.
