Unbuckle your belts, Sydney, a new wave of potentially waist-expanding ventures is on the way, with burger and bagel eateries the next batch of food openings.

Melbourne outfit Lord of the Fries has secured a site at the Chinatown end of George Street and will open in September. Lord of the Fries should fit right into a restaurant culture that loves puns. We hear good things about the operation, and the vegetarian menu includes a democratic range of vegan, halal and gluten-free options.

Sydney's bagel aficionados will also have a new haunt to frequent from June. Daniel Littlepage and Matthew Forsdike are tapping into New York bagel culture at their start-up, Brooklyn Hide. It will open at 226 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills.
