Chinatown icon and crisp-skinned duck specialist BBQ King has closed the doors of its Goulburn Street location.

A spokesperson for Excelsior Realty, which manages the property, said the BBQ King owners had bought their own site not far from the old location, although would not disclose exactly where.

The property manager also stressed there was "nothing wrong" with the Goulbourn Street site and that it was BBQ King's choice to move.

The BBQ King closure has caused a small flurry of confusion and concern on social media during the last week. There was a sign in the front window on Tuesday reading: "Due to restaurant renovations we will unfortunately close our doors for a few short months …Thank you very much for your patronage over the years will see you very soon."

However, a "For Lease" sign in the window suggested otherwise.
