Well known for its trademark shipping containers and exceptional views, The Island Bar is folding down its umbrellas after five successful summers.

The Cockatoo Island venue – one of Sydney's longest lasting and most successful pop-ups – has decided to relocate, having not renewed their lease with Sydney Harbour Federation Trust after difficulties coming to an agreement with the government agency.

"After five years of establishing the bar as one of the must- go destinations in Sydney for great drinks, food and good times right on the harbour, it's time for something new," said part-owner Mike Edkin.

Recently named one of Lonely Planet's Top 50 Bars in the World for 2015, The Island Bar has won several industry awards and been the harbourside location for notable parties and events.

The Island Bar will serve its final drinks and wood-fired pizzas at Cockatoo Island on February 29. Its new location will be revealed before re-opening next summer.

Open Tue-Thur and Sun 12:30pm-7:30pm; Fri-Sat 12:30pm-9pm, theislandbar.com.au
