Renowned Surry Hills caffeine purveyors Single Origin Roasters are multiplying with a second store, Single O CBD, opening on Wednesday, June 17, on York Street.

The new cafe is tucked between skyscrapers and offers a takeaway only menu, combining hole-in-the-wall hipness with efficiency. "It's like our Surry Hills Sideshow takeaway bar with extra kick," says Emma Cohen, who owns Single Origin Roasters with husband Dion. "A small space with great food, specialty coffee, and a big heart."

Coffee is the focus of the new store. "We are looking forward to bringing our house blend, Reservoir, which we've been roasting since 2003, to the city," says Emma. "There's also a single origin blend of the week for adventurous types."

The early-morning satiation options are elevated takes on the classics. There's a cappuccino rice pudding ($8), banana bread with espresso butter ($6), a bacon roll with red eye mayo, fried eggs and tomato apple ketchup ($12) and a croque-monsieur with smoked leg ham, cheddar bechamel and pickled vegetables ($11).

Wholesome sandwiches ($10) and rustic salads ($12) are available at lunch and those wanting to sip slowly can enjoy a standing coffee at the espresso bar, Italian-style.

There are also exotic beverages offered on tap, such as sparkling tea made from cascara (the fruit of coffee trees), and the fermented health drink of the hour, kombucha.
