Guess what? Prahran has a cool new caff with the opening of Tall Timber.

The brains of the operation are Steve Rowley, Hugh Hindle and Matt Vero, owners of Port Melbourne cafe Station Street Trading Company. The trio has been sitting on the property at 60 Commercial Road for almost a year, waiting for permits to come through.

''Tall Timber'' is a reference to the fencing made from old railway sleepers they had built around the courtyard at the back of the cafe.

''Hugh looked at them and said, 'that's some expensive tall timber,''' Rowley says, and the name stuck.

There's a Lumberjack's fry up for breakfast, and muesli served in a Tall Timber cereal box.

''We want to serve things a little differently and engage the diner a bit more,'' says Rowley. Coffee is by their own roastery, Niccolo.

Tall Timber is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
