If Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson is after a set-designer for his next film, the director of The Grounds of Alexandria should be on his short-list. Ramzey Choker has been on the tools for the past fortnight, putting the finishing touches to a whimsical food pop-up at Bondi's Marks Park for Sculpture by the Sea. If the shingled roof and quirky design has a touch of Hollywood by the sea, it's by design.

"We wanted to create something that felt like it was from cartoons. It was inspired by Shrek and hobbits. It's supposed to be fun, an escape," Choker says. The breakfast and lunch menus have a few items that follow script, with "Frodo's vegie wrap" and a Hobbit menu for kids. Choker, who used 100 per cent recycled timber for the building, also engineered a tree house he will use as a slurpy hut.

"We did a pop-up at Sculpture by the Sea last year and it taught us a lot. There's so much room for creativity, and The Grounds is all about creativity. We wanted to create something special to sit on top of this hill." After its 19-day run, Choker isn't sure what he'll do with the building. "Hopefully we'll use it somewhere else," he says.
