Kevin Bacon has been pig-napped.

The much-loved resident pet at The Grounds of Alexandria, who has a solid following on Facebook, was stolen from his pen overnight, along with another children's favourite, Bradley the lamb.

Two women and a man were captured on CCTV camera entering the cafe's grounds at 12.57am on Monday and stealing the animals, which were popular among parents and children who visited the cafe.

The thieves, who were filmed walking around The Grounds with torches, were believed to have led Kevin and Bradley through the car park and into a car on Huntley Street before driving away.

General manager Michael Gebran said he was desperate to find the cafe's two beloved "family members".

The cafe has offered a $5000 reward for any information leading to the return of Kevin and Bradley.

All the kids this morning are running up to the pen, asking 'Where are they?', and we've just been saying that they're on holidays.

"The whole concept of The Grounds is that it's a family place. All the kids this morning are running up to the pen, asking 'Where are they?', and we've just been saying that they're on holidays. All the kids are sad, and all of the staff are quite sad as well," Mr Gebran said.

He said Kevin had been at The Grounds since July last year, and he was joined two months ago by Bradley.

Mr Gebran said he received at call at 2am on Monday from the baker to say that the animals had been taken from their pen.

After reporting the theft to police, Mr Gebran drove around the area until 5.30am looking for the animals.

Now he has put out a call out on social media for people to keep an eye out for for Bradley and Kevin, who is microchipped.

Within an hour of the news being posted on Facebook, it had already been shared more than 500 times.

"We've got 17,000 followed on Facebook so Kevin has got a massive fan base. This morning once it was posted on Facebook, the traction was just insane," he said.

Mr Gebran said he hoped to release footage of the suspects, who had not concealed their faces.

"The footage shows them walking up the path with torches. Unfortunately, the four doors that they open, you just see the shadow of the door being opened, but we see them walking up to the door and walking around our site with torches," he said.

"We are waiting for tomorrow for the rest of the site, because there are tenants everywhere and all the tenants have footage on their site.

"The gardener this morning followed the sheep's poo to see which way he has walked, and they've exited through the car park and out on Huntley Street."

Mr Gebran said he had no idea who had taken the beloved animals, but said some people were critical of Kevin and Bradley being kept at the Alexandria site.

"On social media, the response to the pig and lamb is probably 90 per cent positive and 10 per cent of people asking how we can be a breakfast place that serves egg and bacon rolls and care for a pig at the same time, and things like that," he said.

"I don't know if they were just three uni students that were animal activists that took them. They could be just taking them to their backyard. I was out driving around until 5.30 this morning through the streets to see if they were just playing a prank and let them loose, or if they actually had taken them."

Anyone with information has been urged to contact police or The Grounds team on 9699 2225.
