Bridge Road newcomer Touchwood, which opened yesterday, has pedigree. The Richmond cafe is the collaboration of owners Matt Vero and Steve Rowley of Tall Timber in Prahran with Jamie McBride and his two brothers-in-law who co-own Pillar of Salt in Richmond.

The space that was formerly Blue Print recycled timber furniture shop has been turned into Touchwood, named for luck. The chef, Tristan White, was most recently at Red Door Food Store in Northcote.

The menu will be "modern cafe food", says McBride. "We're proud of Melbourne's cafe scene and want to do it justice." Their coffee is from Five Senses and the huge space seats 110.
