The mouse is in the house

New Zealand restaurateur Christian McCabe, who ran Wellington's successful Matterhorn restaurant, is opening his first Melbourne venture where Nic Poelaert's Embrasse once stood.

McCabe has teamed with his sister, Amber, and her partner, Jay Comeskey, to open the Town Mouse at the Drummond Street, Carlton, site. The trio has employed chef Dave Verheul, who worked at Matterhorn and did a stint in Britain at the Savoy Grill with Marcus Wareing.

The menu will be "modern European with lots of share plates," Christian says.

The Town Mouse will be open for lunch through to dinner Wednesday to Sunday, as well as dinner on Tuesdays, from late February.
