The Old Bus Depot Markets is opening up a new street food section called The Slab.
Ainslie IGA chef Travis Cutler and partner Stefanie Andrei are doing gourmet Parisian-style toasted sandwiches at their stall Get Lucky. They've put together fresh, handmade sandwiches filled with tarragon, chicken and leek, or pork rolls with barbecue sauce.
Alex Hanner's stall is The Brathaus which will feature German sausages served on crusty baguettes with suitably Teutonic toppings - sauerkraut and German mustards. Alex and his son Thomas Hanner make all the sausages themselves.
The Kurbside Kitchen will offer whole potatoes curled onto a stick, cooked and served with various toppings and sauces. And Mork Ratanakosol and his crew from Mork's on the Kingston foreshore will be doing a pop up stall of their own.
The Sunday markets have always had popular food stalls inside the hangar, where shoppers could brunch on empanadas, slices of Ethiopian kita bread, and bowls of noodles.
But The Slab is designed to complement the existing stalls. It will be held outdoors on the large concrete slab at the back of the markets, a sunny spot that founders Diane Hinds and Morna Whiting noticed people gravitating towards with their coffees and food boxes.
The Slab will officially launch on Sunday, September 13 from 10am at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston.
