This mouse's house is open all day

It has long been the site of some of Melbourne's best restaurants, but now there's a mouse in the house at 312 Drummond Street, Carlton. Andrew McConnell and Pascale Gomes-McNabb had two restaurants in the spot (Mrs Jones, Three One Two), followed by Nick and Tara Poelaert's Embrasse. Now another family business has moved in. The Town Mouse opened on March 22 helmed by brother and sister Christian and Tara McCabe, (from New Zealand) and Jay Comeskey (St Ali). Its aim? Approachable all-day dining. Chef is Dave Verheul, who worked at Christian's award-winning Wellington eatery Matterhorn. New Zealand architect Allistar Cox redesigned the room, while the name comes from the childrens' story about the frugal country mouse and the town mouse who enjoyed life. The Town Mouse is open for lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinners Wednesday to Sunday.
