This week: what's in season

New in
Gordon Jones from Warragul has new season potatoes including King Edward, Royal Blue and Nicolas. Jones says early in the season spuds have soft skin and a shorter shelf life, so buy smaller amounts
more often.

Sweet pickings
Summer heralds berry season. Strawberries are eating particularly well. Brambleberries, youngberries and gooseberries are available along with early raspberries and blueberries.

Last chance
The broad bean season is drawing to a close, however they will freeze well.

In the vegie patch
Russell Bourke, from the Kensington Garden Centre, says it’s not too late to get tomatoes in but advises — as with any summer plantings — to mulch and feed the soil.
