Three Blue Ducks and Woollahra's soon-to-be homeless Pinbone team have both been mooted as potential players for the Kitchen by Mike site in Rosebery.

The long-term culinary direction of the prized Rosebery food venue has been a source of food industry conjecture after the departure of its founding chef, Mike McEnearney, last month.

The chef left the uber-cool canteen, where his partners in the venture, furniture and homeware operators Koskela, now run the venture solo.

Pinbone was believed to be scoping it for relocation, Mark LaBrooy from Bronte's Three Blue Ducks admitting they've had talks with Koskela.

"We looked at it, but at this stage we're not going in," he says. Whether it is a joint venture or solo, Koskela will almost certainly remain involved, but its owners weren't responding to questions on its future.

Julian Nikiel, the chef appointed after McEnearney's departure, only added seasoning to the story when asked if it was true he'd resigned.

"I can't give out any information. There's going to be something announced at some stage," he said.
