Danny Tosolini has taken over the Artespresso site in Kingston, and is renovating the space for a "European-style" wine bar and eatery.

Tosolini, who used to work with brother Carlo at Tosolini’s in the city, has been in Sydney for almost a decade, where he worked at the Sydney outlet of Ottoman Cuisine and at such Italian luminaries at Buon Ricordo and Pendolino. He came back with lots of ideas, and is now focused on making the troubled Artespresso site sing.

It hasn't been an easy site for previous owners, with Craig Mortimer closing the business in April after a long struggle trying to keep it open.

Tosolini says he’s raised the ceilings and extended into the balconies, with a new bar wrapped around the front of the space, banquettes and benches, and an open kitchen. He’s trying to create a warmer feeling, a bit ‘‘industrial eclectic’’ with mismatched furniture.

It will be called the European and will offer shared mains, a flexible menu, simple, rustic food, charcuterie and bread, and lots of European wine. The chef is Joel Miller who worked with James Mussillon, at Balzac in Sydney and more recently at Me and Mrs Jones across the road in Kingston.

He plans to open in the first week of November, brunch on the weekends, lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday.
