Just three days after a launching a Kickstarter campaign, Brisbane engineer and self-confessed coffee nerd Mark Folker has had pledges of almost $54,000 to produce his Trinity One coffee-maker.

"I started looking for an appliance for brewing coffee that not only brewed consistently good coffee but that looked good, that you could leave out on your kitchen bench like we do with espresso machines. But there was nothing, so I started doing some drawings and decided to design something that would fit that gap."

Folker came up with the steel and black walnut Trinity One. It has a weighted cylinder, which the brewer can adjust to change the speed of the press and set to create exactly the same coffee over and over again. It can make cold brew, pour over and air pressure method coffee.

"Sure, there are makers like the Aeropress, and it's great, but it's plastic and not something you'd want to have on display in your kitchen."

So far, 60 per cent of the Trinity One's backers have come from America.

"I knew there was international interest because I set up an Instagram account and I've got a good following from the US and have been getting lots of emails, but I didn't expect it to be in this proportion. I naturally just thought because it was a local product most of the interest would come from Australia."

Brisbane roasters and cafes have been very supportive, Folker says.

With nearly a month of of campaigning to go, he's already just short of the goal of $60,000 needed to go into production of the prototype of his coffee-maker.

Folker is aiming to have his product available in stores by January. The coffee maker will sell for between $350 and $450, although supporters of the Kickstarter campaign can buy the Trinity One at the early bird price of $225.
