There was talk of Turkish-inspired lamingtons for the coming Freedom and Friendship Anzac Day lunch at Malmsbury Town Hall where two Turkish chefs will cook with local chefs from Small Holdings and the Stables.

Istanbul chef Semi Hakim is one of the founding members of Gastonomika – a collective of designers, chefs, anthropologists and architects affirming Anatolian cuisine by touring Turkey for traditional recipes, and testing and developing them in their community kitchen.

Ozge Donmezolglu cooks on an Aga at popular Istanbul eatery Gram, known for its buffet-style salads and warm plates.

As well as the three-course lunch there'll be Turkish-style coffee from Moto Bean, and a special-release red from Gali Wines – made with 85 per cent merlot and 15 per cent cabernet franc from vines that overlook the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Lunch is $75 a head, with picnic and Friday-night camping options also available; for details see gallipoliwine.com
