Two Small Rooms in Auchenflower has been sold. Its new owner is Josh Lawson, who is currently in the kitchen at Alfred & Constance and before that was at Fourth Child in Ipswich after stints at Les Amis and Piaf.

"I was looking for my own place for around 18 months and when Two Small Rooms came up, I jumped at it," Lawson says. "Just about everyone I know has worked there at some stage of their career."

Lawson, along with business partner Jamie McDermott, who'll be in charge of front-of-house, says he is planning a contemporary menu with a European focus. "We're going to change the decor and the menu, to make it a bit more casual, and we'll add more starters and share plates. Outside there'll be a casual bar menu."

Lawson says they will be trying to source wines from young, lesser-known producers from Australia, France, Italy and Spain.

And will he be making his own charcuterie as he did at Les Amis? "Maybe down the track I'll buy in a pig and break it down and make some salami. I'm a big fan of that kind of slow food." Lawson says he hopes to open in mid-July.
