Vas Donoudis has stepped in as head chef at North Melbourne's reliably charming Italian Sosta Cucina. Donoudis replaces Paolo Masciopinto, who left Errol Street earlier this year to head up the kitchen at city restaurant Sarti, in turn replacing Riccardo Momesso, who has gone out on his own in Hawksburn at Valentino. Donoudis was at Church Street Enoteca previously and, most recently, at the South Wharf's Shed 5, which closed recently. Shed 5 co-owner Stan Sarris has plans for the venue. ''We will maintain the Shed 5 brand,'' he says, ''but are expanding the space and changing the food direction with a focused wine experience.'' Sarris says the space will grow from 180 square metres to a whopping 500 and he is looking to reopen in early July.
