EXPANDING his eastside empire is Raymund Venzin, owner of Mons Ban Sabai Thai in Camp Hill, and Green Papaya and Pawpaw café in Woolloongabba.

This time though, the Swiss-born restaurateur is sticking a little closer to his roots, with an Italian eatery called "La Finestra" (the window) opening this weekend. Formerly Grande Piatto, it's right next-door to Mons Ban Sabai.

Venzin has imported a chef from northern Italy, Barbara Ianne, to keep it all authentic, and dishes are simple, comforting Italian standards: a Bolognese ragu from the kitchen of Barbara's nonna, classic "prosciutto e melone", "hunters' casserole" and more of the same ilk.

The wine list will feature Italian and Australian wine, but in the spirit of the suburban eatery, BYO is an option.
