Village awaits sister eateries

Natascha Mirosch

Rosalie Village is about to get both a new restaurant and a new cafe with the opening of Moga Izakaya and Sushi and little sister Red Jacket next month.

Owner Sonya Fitzpatrick says Moga, across the road from Milton State School, is due to open on April 15, with Red Jacket (the name references Gregory Park across the road, once known as Red Jacket Swamp) opening its doors a couple of weeks later.

Fitzpatrick has a love of Japan and its cuisine, travelling there often and having lived in Asia with her pilot father as a child. She also owns Hana Sushi in South Brisbane. Izakaya are Japanese-style bars or "drinking dens" that also serve food, often to share, and the Moga menu features share plates as well as more traditional mains.

A Robata grill, which burns the famous binchotan charcoal, has been installed in the kitchen for grilled meats and skewers and a wrap-around bar features a sushi conveyor. Fitzpatrick says the drinks list is still in the works but will offer cocktails, sake and wine. Red Jacket will be a simpler affair, with coffee, house-made cakes and sandwiches, she says.
