So much for retirement. Jacques Reymond may have handed the baton to his two proteges but he's not kicking back in the comfy recliner just yet. With offspring Nathalie, Edouard and Antoine, he has bought the former Hotel Max, which will become L'Hotel Gitan. The format will be based on their nearby Bistro Gitan, but with more of a pub feel, all-day snacking and a focus on Mediterranean-style cooking a la plancha, involving a flat-plate grill. Reymond will design the menu and act as a consultant, leaving his children in charge of day-to-day business.
SJB Interiors, which spruced up the interiors at Jacques Reymond, will renovate the hotel, at 32 Commercial Road, Prahran.
The Reymonds aim to open L'Hotel Gitan Monday to Saturday from September.
