City bar opens roof to lunch crowd
A new lunchtime option has city workers (not their bosses) in mind at The Aylesbury. Chef Seth James’ rooftop bar menu offers up tapas-style eats from the downstairs restaurant’s new Spanish menu; think chicken ensalada with tarragon, anchovies and egg ($10) or pan-seared dory and grilled leeks with harissa and fennel pea salad ($18).
While your lunch budget may emerge intact, you may have difficulty leaving the sun-soaked roof to head back to the office (particularly if you decide to sample some sangria or cocktails as well).

Melbourne’s thirst for independence feeds expansion
Boutique-style wine purveyor Blackhearts & Sparrows has extended its reach into Melbourne’s inner ‘burbs with two new stores to add to those in Windsor, Brunswick East, and North Fitzroy.
Owners Paul and Jessica Ghaie opened a new outlet in Kensington on Macaulay Road just before Christmas, while another new store on Carlisle Street in East St Kilda is expected to open in early February. The Ghaie’s would have opened earlier, but had to tackle VCAT along the way.

Customers will be able to peruse Blackhearts & Sparrows wide range of independent wine and beer labels while Kensington folk will also be able to stock up on ‘‘ a small but comprehensive range of deli goods’’ (quality cheeses and smallgoods) in response to requests from locals.
