It is that time of year again. Come Sunday, August 9, thousands of avid athletes and walkers will take to the streets of Sydney for this year's City2Surf.

Whether you're a spectator, a runner or a local who is keen to relish in the local food options, Bondi's top cafes and restaurants will have you covered. Stop in for a pressed juice pre-race or celebrate with a plate of paella a few steps from the finish line.

Here's a guide to this year's food offerings.

Chapter One, from 6:30am

Recently taken over by Bondi Beach's head lifeguard, Bruce Hopkins and his wife Stacey, this cosy coffee and wine room is looking to serve the hoards of hungry crowds old-school style.

Set up on the south end of Bondi Beach, the local duo will be heating up the barbecue and donning cheesy aprons (on lifeguard Hoppo's part) for a sausage sizzle. Sausage sandwiches will be on offer for $4, teamed with a simple cold-pressed orange juice for $8.

For loyal Chapter One locals, the cafe's usual menu will be available - minus a few complex dishes to ensure an uninterrupted supply of sausage sandwiches.

Chapter One will be open from 6:30am until the crowds die down. Shop 3A, 34 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach, (02) 9130 1651.

Lox Stock and Barrel, from 7am

An established favourite among Bondi locals, this modern deli diner will be offering a race special for event participants.

Showcasing their signature bagels, customers can pick up a bagel and hash brown on-the-go for $15. Opt for a Reuben wagyu corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut combo, or perhaps egg-and-herb mayonnaise tickles your fancy. The popular "smoked lox" bagel packed with onion, capers, rocket and cream cheese is set to be a crowd favourite.

In need of a thirst-quencher after your 14km slog? Lox Stock and Barrel will have jugs of their homemade 'elderflower kombucha' with fresh cucumber at the ready for $5.

Lox Stock and Barrel will be open from 7am-4pm. 140 Glenayr Avenue, Bondi Beach, (02) 9300 0368.

Bondi Hardware, from 9am

This cool take on the original Hall Street hardware stall is set to be the ideal spot to refuel after the race. Or to watch on, admiringly.

The team at Bondi Hardware has also arranged a themed menu to run for the day. A selection of fresh juices will be on offer - to be spiked on request with your favourite alcohol for a well-earned (or desired) treat. The menu will feature a one-off beer-battered Barramundi slider, along with the usual Hardware slider favourites (classic beef, pork belly with braised endive and dijon slaw or spiced chicken with bacon jam and Sriracha slaw).

Bondi Hardware will be open all day from 9am. 39 Hall Street, Bondi Beach, (02) 9365 7176.

The Bucket List, from 2:30pm

Prepare to celebrate your hike up "heartbreak hill" in style at Bondi's beachside bar and eatery. The Bucket List team will be hosting a "City2Surf Rehydration' special event, a few steps from the finish.

Set to kick off after the race, this beachside session will feature a menu of head chef Tom Walton's favourites, backed by the deep house sounds of fashion designers and musicians, Barney Cools. Walton will be bringing out his sizeable paella pan for the event, serving the seasonable favourite for $15 a plate. A selection of cheesy beef sliders, crispy calamari, pulled pork and haloumi tacos will also be on offer along with The Bucket List's John Dory fish burger and chips.

The stand-out of the event is set to be its post-race thirst quenchers. Sip on a coconut mojito, made with coconut water and rum, to hydrate and energise for the night ahead.

Bucket List's "City2Surf Rehydration" will kick off at 2:30pm. The Bondi Pavilion, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach, (02) 9365 4122.
