It looks like the Gasworks in Newstead will be opening stage one of its development later than its originally schedule of "mid 2013".

There's a decent spread of food retailers going into the space, with the James Street market crew (now known as The Standard Market Co), Campos Coffee and Buzz Bar & Bistro all having taken up tenancies.

The Moubarak group (owners of Laruche, Gerard's and Lychee Lounge) are opening Hatch and Co. with hot young chef Braden White (a contender for the Appetite for Excellence Electrolux Young Chef of the Year) in the kitchen and a rustic menu of slow-cooked, wood-fired finished beasts and pizza.

More meaty goodness will be coming our way from La Rotisserie with rotisserie chicken, lamb, beef and pork as well as pulled pork and shredded beef sandwiches.

There's a Salsa's Mexican Grill seating around 120, including an outdoor eating area. Other tenants include Reef Seafood and Sushi and The Wine Emporium, as well as Peng You, a Chinese restaurant by the owner of Obsession Chinese in South Bank.

At the sweeter end of the eating spectrum, there's Max Brenner, Gurts Frozen Yogurt and Dessert Bar.

Currently Gasworks Stage One is slated to open at the beginning of September.
